Expanding Temporary Professional Worker Visa for South Korea

Greetings! I am your constituent residing in your district. I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor the Partner with Korea Act (H.R.1019), which amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to create an E-4 professional visa category for up to 15,000 nationals of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) each fiscal year.

H.R. 1019 / S.2663 is a very important bill for U.S. businesses trading with South Korea. As you may already know, on March 15, 2012, the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (“KORUS FTA”) was implemented. The trade volume between two countries is constantly increasing.

However, KORUS FTA does not allow the expansion of workforce exchanges between two countries. Unlike KORUS FTA, the U.S. set aside 5,400 H-1B visas for nationals of Singapore and 1,400 H-1Bs for nationals of Chile when the U.S. agreed to free trade agreements with the two nations. The U.S. even created 10,500 E-3 visas only for Australian professional workers when the U.S. entered a free trade agreement with Australia.

By creating the E-4 professional visa for South Korea, H.R. 1019 will make U.S. businesses more competitive in the markets in South Korea and the U.S. and will create numerous jobs and business opportunities in the U.S.

Therefore, I respectfully urge you to co-sponsor H.R. 1019. I am counting on your support for this important bill.

Thank you.
